At the competitive level, there are the major divisions of rhythmic and artistic gymnastics. Artistic gymnastics involves feats of fitness, skill, concentration, flexibility and artistic flair. Rhythmic gymnastics involves four apparatus: the Rope, Ball, Hoop, Clubs and Ribbon (as well as freehand - no apparatus), and are judged on the skill of the gymnast in leaps, balances, pivots, flexibility, apparatus handling and artistic effect.
