Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Boxing is one of the core Commonwealth Games sports. Boxing is also one of three sports that has been on every Games program - the others are Athletics and Swimming. Boxing at the Commonwealth Games up until 2014 was for men only. In 2014 there were three medal weights for women: flyweight, lightweight and middleweight, which were the same three categories that appeared at London 2012 Olympics.
Competition
- The competition take place according to the rules of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).
- The competition is for men and women. For men, bouts in 10 weight categories will be contested, ranging from 49kg to Super Heavyweight 91kg+. For women, there are 6 categories, from 48 to 75kg.
- The competition is a knockout format, with the winner of each bout proceeding to the next round. quarter-finals, Semi Finals and gold medal bouts will be completed, with Bronze medals awarded to the losers of the Semi Final bouts.
