The video assesses three fitness component: aerobic fitness, body fat composition and muscular fitness. No special equipment required? Here's what you need. For a start you will need this video (you can buy it on Amazon). Don't worry, you won't need a VHS player as you can stream it directly from Amazon. You will need a scale and tape measure. You will also need a stepping box 8 inches (20.3 cm) high. You may also need a 16.25 inch (41.3cm) step if you qualify for the advanced test.
Bob Mann's Fitness Tests (in suggested order)
- Step Test: Using the 8-inch step box. It is a 4-minute test, three minutes of stepping at a rate of 24 complete steps per minute. After three minutes, there is a rest period of 30 seconds, then measure your pulse for 30 seconds. (see our home step test)
- sit-up test: maximum number of sit-ups in a minute. (see our home sit-up test)
- Body Composition Test: body fat calculation using formula based on hip girth and height measurement (females) and waist girth and body weight (males).
- push-up test: maximum number of push-ups in a minute. Women do a modified push-up from the knees. (see our home push-up test)
- Step Test (Advanced): this test is only for those achieving a score of excellent from the first step test performed. This step test uses a higher step (16.25 inches). You step for 3 minutes at 22 steps per minute (females) or 24 steps per minute (males), and take a pulse reading starting 5 seconds after completing the stepping, and count for 15 seconds. VO2max is estimated using a formula using the heart rate measurement.
