Terrapila - a New Sport

The new sport of Terrapila was created by Wilfie and Barney from the UK in May 2025. Terrapila is a mix of touch rugby, Aussie rules and soccer. The sport is perfect for fans of any of those sports. Players require speed, skill and a tactical mindset.

Equipment: 1 soccer pitch, but with D’s instead of boxes, 1 rugby ball, 14 players - 6 outfield players, and 1 keeper for each team.

Sport Description

Start/ Halftime Kickoff - At the start of the match, and halfway through, (Halves are 30 minutes), one team kicks the ball out of hand into the opponent’s half. (One team kicks it at the start, and the other kicks at halftime.)

Scoring - To score 2 points, score a goal, (A kick out of hand). Shots must be from outside the D. To score 1 point, score a try, which is where you touch the ball down inside the D. Only the goalkeeper and the ball-carrier are aloud in the D, (It is the same for both D’s, and the goalkeeper’s only aloud in their own D.

Touches - There are no knock-ons or forward passes. You may pull the player who has the ball towards you, but if you do, a different player has to touch the ball-carrier, and as soon as the ball-carrier lets go of the ball, you have to let go of them or it will be a free kick. Two-handed touches only. Max touches: 5. When a free kick is awarded, the touch count goes down to 0.

Sidelines/ Backlines/ Corners/ Free Kicks - Sidelines are awarded when the ball goes off the side of the pitch. To take a sideline, take a kick from hand from where it went out. Everyone must be 5 yards from the sideline taker. Backline are awarded when the attacking team hits the ball off the defending team’s backline. The defending team’s goalkeeper takes a kick from hand. Corners are awarded when the defending team kicks it off their own backline. The attacking team takes a kick from hand, or runs with it, from the corner. Free Kicks are awarded for pulling off the ball, taking to long after touches, or holding onto the ball after a try or goal. After a touch, the player who touched the other player has to be 5 yards away. Either take a shot from the ground at the goal, or a kick from hand for a pass to a teammate.
