An Update on Agility

Marsden, J.F., and Wood, R.J., An Update on Agility. Proceedings of the 6th Applied Physiologist Conference, Canberra, Australia, Nov 1999.

This study investigated a modified turning ability test, which added skill to turning ability. Additional tests were conducted to evaluate sideways movement and “foot-speed”. These tests were compared pre and post training. The subjects were 5 NTIS basketball squad members. Agility was evaluated pre and post an 8 week training program, which included agility and footwork drills.

RESULTS: The agility/footwork training module was effective to modifying certain components of basketball specific agility. Need to determine whether these changes observed during testing also modify game situation agility. Also need to be able to quantify movement abilities during game situations.
