What do you call this sport - football or soccer?
People don't usually call it by its official name, Association football, usually it's soccer or football, or some other variant of these two. The term Association football came about to distinguish the game from the other versions of football played at the time, such as rugby football. From the 'association' part of the name came the word soccer (assoc.). The name Soccer is often used for this sport in countries where there is another sport played called football, though calling this sport Football is becoming more common in these places.
