Exogun Recovery Massager - A Review
The Exogun Massager is a massage gun, also known as a percussive therapy device, used to help relax and soothe sore muscles and aid in recovery after exercise.
The Exogun is a hand-held device that is placed to the skin over the target muscle, where it provides a series of rapid, concentrated pulsating strokes which penetrate deep into the muscle tissue.

Review Notes
- The Exogun is a solid good looking unit, which oozes quality. It is quite heavy to hold, which is required to give a solid massage pulse, but it may get hard to hold for extended periods, especially if you are spending time targeting multiple sites. The weight of the device would also make it difficult to hold it comfortably when getting to certain harder-to-reach areas of the body. You could get someone to hold it to provide the massage, though the point of this device is that you can self-massage anytime at home. Exogun also sells a lighter weight version, the pocket, which may better suit some people.
- The Exogun gives strong pulses, even at the lower settings. I found it very satisfying whatever level, but when my partner had a go it tickled too much. I think it would be worth persisting to get over the possible tickling sensation so you can relax and enjoy the benefits. I'm glad there were lots of levels so you can go from gentle to max. There are 6 speed settings to target the therapy for all muscle groups and desired massage intensity.
- Is it effective? It definitely leaves you feeling better after a bit of self-massage. I felt relaxed immediately afterwards. Studies have shown that massage guns are an effective method of increasing range of motion and reducing the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness (Martin, 2021). There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence that it is beneficial. If you want to conduct a little experiment on yourself, after a hard leg gym session only use the Exogun on one leg, and see if there is a difference over the next couple of days.
- Does it replace a good sports masseur? A well-trained masseur can work on your body while you relax, can target all areas of the body, and work on flexibility and respond in real-time to muscle tightness and soreness. While the Exogun may not be able to match the masseur in some of these aspects, it doesn't have to be a replacement. You can still get your weekly massage, but with the Exogun you have the added benefits of being able to use it soon after exercise, in the privacy of your home, and on a daily basis if you desire. You are in control. It may seem like an expensive outlay, but a good quality massage gun like the Exogun will pay for itself in a short time.
