Iceland at the World Cup
The small European nation of Iceland made its only appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 2018. In doing so, they became the smallest nation by population to ever clinch a World Cup berth. In their group, they had a draw against Argentina, and losses to Nigeria and Croatia.
Trivia
- Iceland first participated in World Cup qualification for the 1958 World Cup, finishing last in their group with zero wins and with 26 goals against.
- Alfreð Finnbogason scored the first goal for Iceland in FIFA World Cup history. The only other goal scored in the tournament was by Gylfi Sigurðsson.
