Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympics

Trinidad and Tobago first competed at the Olympic Games in 1948, though at the 1960 Games, athletes from Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago competed as the West Indies. Although it is a tiny nation, Trinidad and Tobago still managed to stamp its class in the Olympics especially in athletics, weightlifting and even swimming.

Rodney Wilkes became the nation’s first medal winner and multiple medal winner at the Olympics by taking the silver at the 1948 London Olympics and the bronze at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in the men’s featherweight division in weightlifting.

Hasely Crawford became the first Trinidad and Tobago athlete to win a gold medal by capturing the 100-meter run at the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympic Games, while Ato Boldon became the nation’s most bemedalled athlete as he pocketed three medals (2 silver and 1 bronze) in athletics.
