UEFA Super Cup
The UEFA Super Cup is an annual football match organized by UEFA, and contested by the reigning champions of the top two European club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The first event was held in 1973 (in 1972 there was a match but it was not officially recognized by UEFA). No tournaments were held in 1974, 1981 and 1985. Since 1998, the competition has involved just a single match, which is now only contested in a neutral venue.
From 1973 to 1999, the UEFA Super Cup was contested between the winners of the Champions League winners and the winners of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (which has now been discontinued).
Two teams have won the cup five times each, Barcelona (1992, 1997, 2009, 2011, 2015) and Milan (1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007). Real Madrid has won the title six times.
Recent Events
- 2022 (Aug 10) - Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League) vs. Eintracht Frankfurt (UEFA Europa League). Held at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland. Real Madrid won 2–0.
- 2023 - (Aug 16) - Manchester City (UEFA Champions League), and Spanish club Sevilla, (UEFA Europa League). Held at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece. Manchester City won 5–4 on penalties following a 1–1 draw after 90 minutes.
- 2024 - (Aug 14) - Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League) and Atlanta (UEFA Europa League). The match was played at the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland. Real Madrid won by 2-0 to lift the trophy for the sixth time.
- 2025 - (Aug 13) - Paris Saint-Germain (UEFA Champions League) and Tottenham (UEFA Europa League). The match was played at the Stadio Friuli, Udine. Paris Saint-Germain won 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes and extra time.
