Chris Jack: Rugby Union
Christopher Raymond Jack (born 5 September 1978 in Christchurch) is a New Zealand rugby union player who played as a lock. He played for Canterbury, the Crusaders in the Super 14s, Saracens in the Premiership and internationally for New Zealand. He made his Test debut for the All Blacks on 23 June 2001 against Argentina in Christchurch.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Jack was named New Zealand Rugby Player of the Year in 2002. He also scored a try 11 minutes after coming on as a replacement against Argentina during his international debut in 2001 and scored a try in New Zealand’s opening match of the RWC 2007 against Italy. He played in six RWC matches, five in 2003 and one in 2007.

Chris Jack was a pillar of Canterbury and Crusaders and developed into a world-class lock and an energetic player. He’s an exceptional athlete – a brilliant lineout jumper and covers the ground like a loose forward.
What You May Not Know
- Since the shock loss to France in the 2007 World Cup, he hasn’t represented his nation. He played with Saracens for two years after the France loss but left controversially appealing northern hemisphere rugby was “easy”.
- In 2009, Chris Jack re-signed with the New Zealand Rugby Union until 2011 and played with South African side Western Province then made a return to Super 14 side Crusaders for the 2010 season.
