Sean Kerly: Field Hockey
Sean Robin Kerly, MBE (born 29 January 1960) is a former English field hockey player. He represented Great Britain and England during the Olympic Games and Hockey World Cup. In his early playing years, he played club hockey for Canterbury, Southgate and Herne Bay.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Kerly was remembered for scoring eight goals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He won silver medals at the 1986 World Cup and the 1987 European Cup. He scored a total of 57 goals throughout 74 matches for Great Britain and played in 58 outdoor and 9 indoor internationals for England.
Why Was He So Good?
Because of his scoring feats, attentions were focused on Sean Kerly, which was unusual for a hockey player. When he won the gold for Britain in Seoul, he became the only hockey player ever to truly make a mark on the nation’s sporting psyche.
