Roque

Roque is an American variation of croquet, that is played on a hard, smooth surface compared to the grass surface used for croquet. The name "roque" was created by removing the initial "c" and final "t" from "croquet". The rules of roque are very similar to those of croquet.

It is played on a hard sand or clay court (dimensions 30 by 60 foot), surrounded by a boundary wall. The balls are hit with mallets, can be bounced off the walls during play. There are ten arches in seven points configured in a figure-8 formation, permanently anchored in the court. The game was at its peak of popularity in the first quarter of the 20th century, and is played very rarely these days.
