Anthropometry Testing for Baseball

Baseball is a sport in which skill plays a significant part, though anthropometry (measurement of body size and composition) is an important component of fitness for baseball.

Carrying excess body fat can increase body fatigue during long periods of play. Excess body fat would affect the baseballer's ability to move freely around the field, and it would also increase fatigue during training and game play as the excess weight does not benefit the sport. Skinfold measures should be performed to determine body fat levels.

Being tall and having a large arm reach can also be an advantage, particularly in swinging the bat, reaching for a catch and throwing the ball. See about measuring arm span.
