The break-up of the Soviet Union give rise to the first-ever Winter Olympic Games participation of Moldova in 1994 and the nation seemed hooked up with it, never missing a single edition from then on. The nation was part of the Soviet Union Olympic team from 1952 to 1988.

At the Summer Olympic Games the country has won meadals in sports such as canoeing, shooting, boxing and wrestling, but unfortunately the nation is still yet to break the medal drought at the Winter Games.
