Mixed Team at the Olympics
In the early Olympic Games it was possible for individuals in a team to be from different nations. In such cases the medals are not split between the representative countries, but attributed to the mixed team. The results from these teams have been grouped together by the IOC under the mixed team designation (IOC code ZZX). 17 medals were won by mixed teams from 1896 to 1904.
Trivia
- In 1900, there were five sports in which athletes from different nations competed on the same team: tennis, football, polo, rowing and tug of war.
- Bohemian athlete Hedwiga Rosenbaumová won a bronze medal with Archibald Warden of Great Britain in the mixed doubles tennis at the 1900 Olympics.
